My camera was unwilling to coöperate today, she wanted to make only blurry pictures. Let’s hope it’s not the sign of her giving up the fight, just a temporary bad mood. This picture has its charms, though.

After a chaotic team meeting where everybody felt the need to speak loud and aggressive but no one felt the need to listen to others, I came home so tired that I slept until 7 pm and totally forgot about the laundry I wanted to do.

thou art not lovelier than lilacs

by ada

Lilacs are about to bloom right now, so I’m desperately photographing them every time I get out. In my sister’s opinion, this blog is sort of overcrowded with blossom pictures lately and it starts to get boring. I guess she is right; but in my opinion, looking at nice pictures of colourful flowers is definitely more cheerful than reading long posts about the present state of psychiatric care in Hungary, written in my weird English. So if you are bored with spring blossom photos, just imagine how bored you would be with the detailed story of my depression*, and feel relieved.

* I even managed to mention it in a blossom post. I am talented.

Things are starting to happen lately and I like it. I can’t have those lost six months back but maybe I’ll have the possibility to fix the damage depression did to my life.

Today I wore skirt with bare legs for the first time this year. Not a day too early. I spent three years in Holland where people start wearing flip-flops and spaghetti tops from 2. January on, so I’m sort of used to the idea of going outside in clothes that don’t fit the weather. Luckily we have really nice warm days lately.

Vanity is definitely not on the (otherwise frighteningly long) list of my faults and personality imperfections, but I can’t help noticing that I have never looked so weird as I did during these past six months of depression. It’s not only that I’m visiting public places in pajamas, which is bad enough; but, because I left all my belongings in Holland, in the lack of my own clothes I’m forced to wear things from my sister and my mother, neither of them are my size; or strange old robes I left at home before moving abroad almost a decade ago. Unfortunately, I’m also not my own nine-year-younger-self size anymore, and this makes these clothes just more awful to wear.

Sometimes I’m really thankful for my Catholic past. It taught me not to care too much about my looks, which is a practical attitude for the recovery phase of depression.

The Cat had her stitches removed today. She almost killed the vet during the procedure, hissing and biting like a rattlesnake. Our cat is more of a werewolf than of a teddy bear, and since she isn’t in pain anymore, she seems to be her good old self again.

I was sort of late with taking today’s photo. Since my camera doesn’t tolerate dusk very well, the most appropriate title for the picture would be “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

Today we celebrated the name day of my mother and my birthday. The big white cake is for her, and the small, flat, brown but delicious one beside it is my glutenfree antidepressant version, made by my sister. Life can be pretty funny if you have an understanding of morbid humour.
