winter is icummen in, lhude sing Goddamm

by ada

Last year’s everlasting winter (it was still snowing in April!) made me experience seasonal affective disorder at its worst, which was a major setback on my way of recovery. I happily made my peace with this year’s weather forecast of having no winter at all. While everybody was complaining about the lack of snow, I was rejoicing. Those four days I spent in frosty Moravia before Christmas were more than enough winter wonders for me.

Well, I never was a very lucky person, that’s clear. So hello, snow, here are you again. I really, really do hope you won’t stay till April this time.

music for Easter Sunday – Der Himmel lacht, die Erde jubilieret, BWV 31 by Johann Sebastian Bach

by ada

Today’s music is the first choir, Der Himmel lacht, die Erde jubilieret from the cantata of the same title, written by Johann Sebastian Bach for the Easter Sunday of the year 1715, during his Weimar years. I wish I could identify myself with its jubilant atmosphere but well, neither the Heaven laughs nor does the Earth exult, because it actually snows again and I’m already so sick of this winter, it really feels like giving up, lying down and dying. Not exactly that brassy resurrexit-feeling one would like to have on Easter Sunday.

P.S.: Last year’s post was something Hungarian: Surrexit Christus hodie by Esterházy Pál. You can listen to it  here.

it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

I clearly wasn’t prepared for this snow. All I want to do now is to move to the Bahamas and start a brand new life. A life in which the words cold and snow don’t even bear any meaning.

Hallein – part 1

by ada

Hallein is a charming old city with a history back to Celtic times. Unfortunately it was so terribly freezing today that instead of concentrating on seeing things I only managed to concentrate on 1) trying to keep snowflakes away from my lens (without success) 2) trying to keep snow out of my boots (also without success).

a silence deep and white

The view from my garden door at 3 am. I don’t sleep very well lately since I’m off 5-HTP again. The first thing that goes wrong is always sleep. The second thing that vanishes rapidly about two days after taking the last pill is my ability to tolerate other people. Considering the fact that I’m being paid for getting up early and tolerating people, it’s quite an unfortunate situation.

daylight come and me wanna go home

I took a few photos before going to sleep today morning. I may have the same working schedule as vampires do but I’m still a human being, with a feeling for daylight’s beauties.

Snowchurch, with the (somewhat melted) Angel and Devil, right before the university dormitory. It came to existence during the night, by some creative students, under alcohol influence, I guess.

Another visit in another ministry. I really, really do hope one day I will win back all the incredible amount of money and time I already have donated to the Hungarian Bureaucracy for getting permissions, getting those permissions translated and getting the translated permissions authenticated.

And, as if it was not enough, it started snowing again. Since my depression I’m not as good at welcoming unexpected events as I used to be, so I spent the whole day on the edge of being hysterical. And it is not over yet. I am curious if I manage the day without murdering  somebody.

Budapest – ice on the Danube

Due to the extremely cold weather for the past two weeks, the Danube started to freeze over. The last time it was completely covered with ice so that people could walk on it, was in 1982, thirty years ago. I really do hope it won’t happen this winter; I don’t want our selfmade Glorious King and National Hero of Orbán Viktor to get the idea of having a coronation party on the frozen ice as did our great king Mátyás in 1458 (he was actually the last Hungarian politician who managed to keep up with Europe). Making a big theatrical scene and accepting the admiration of the manipulated plebs while thinking himself as big as Mátyás but much cooler, is exactly his thing. And, I am sad to admit, this is also what the biggest part of the Hungarian population would appreciate. Why can’t we behave normal, I really wonder.
